How we work

Clear from the beginning. Collaborative throughout.

Successful software projects need more than technical development. They require a clear understanding of the problem, realistic planning, regular communication and a delivery process that allows ideas to be tested and improved. Synv works closely with each customer from the first conversation through to deployment and ongoing development.

A practical process

Start with the outcome, not the technology.

We do not begin by trying to sell a predetermined platform, framework or development package. We begin by understanding what the organisation is trying to achieve, who will use the product and what is currently preventing a better outcome.

Only then do we recommend the most appropriate technical approach. This means every solution is shaped by real business requirements rather than by assumptions made before the first conversation has taken place.

The right solution is defined by the problem it solves, not by the technology used to build it.

The development process

Six clearly connected stages.

From the first conversation to live deployment and beyond, every stage of a Synv project is structured to maintain clarity, reduce risk and keep the customer informed throughout.

1

Understand the challenge

We begin with an initial conversation about the organisation, the users, the existing process and the intended outcome — establishing scope and objectives.

2

Explore the requirement

For more complex projects, a structured discovery process examines the requirement in greater detail, identifies technical risks and agrees the initial phase.

3

Create a clear project plan

Agreed requirements are converted into a practical delivery proposal covering scope, timescale, approach and commercial structure.

4

Plan the user experience

Before significant development begins, we consider how users will move through the product — through journeys, wireframes, interface concepts or prototypes.

5

Develop in structured stages

Development is completed through manageable stages with regular demonstrations, allowing the customer to review progress and provide meaningful feedback.

6

Test, deploy and evolve

The completed product is tested, deployed and handed over — with options for ongoing support, improvements and continued technical consultancy.

Stage 01 — Understand

Understand the challenge

We begin with an initial conversation about the organisation, the users, the existing process and the intended outcome. This helps establish whether the requirement involves a new product, an operational improvement, an integration, a website or a combination of different services.

There is no obligation and no requirement to arrive with a completed specification. The purpose of this stage is to build a clear picture of what you are trying to achieve and why.

Prototype planning

For more complex projects, the next stage is a structured discovery process. This allows us to examine the requirement in greater detail, identify technical risks and agree what should be included in the initial phase of development.

Discovery reduces the likelihood of expensive changes later in the project. It also gives both parties a clear, shared understanding of the scope before significant development investment is made.

Stages 03 & 04 — Define & Design

Plan clearly before building.

03 — Define

The agreed requirements are converted into a practical delivery proposal. This explains what will be built, how the project will be delivered, the expected timescale and the commercial structure.

  • Agreed project scope
  • Delivery stages and technical approach
  • Responsibilities and assumptions
  • Commercial proposal and support options

04 — Design

Before significant development begins, we consider how users will move through the product and how information and functionality should be presented. This may involve user journeys, wireframes, interface concepts or interactive prototypes.

  • User journeys and wireframes
  • Interface design
  • Interactive prototypes
  • Design systems and feedback
Stages 05 & 06 — Build & Launch

Develop, test and deploy.

05 — Build

Development is completed through manageable stages rather than disappearing into a long technical process with no visibility. Regular demonstrations allow the customer to review completed functionality, provide feedback and see how the product is progressing.

  • Software and integration development
  • Regular demonstrations
  • Progress reporting
  • Technical testing and refinement

06 — Launch

Before launch, the completed product is tested against the agreed requirements and real user workflows. We then support deployment, documentation, handover and the transition into live use. The relationship does not have to end at launch.

  • Quality assurance and UAT
  • Deployment and documentation
  • Training and handover
  • Ongoing development options
Working together

The best projects are developed with the customer, not behind closed doors.

Customers bring knowledge of their organisation, industry, users and existing processes. Synv brings software development, technical planning, product design and delivery experience. Combining that knowledge throughout the project helps ensure the finished product addresses the real requirement rather than a set of assumptions made at the beginning.

Regular communication

Project updates and demonstrations provide clear visibility of progress and upcoming decisions throughout delivery.

Meaningful feedback

Feedback is gathered while functionality is being developed, when it can still meaningfully influence the outcome.

Clear responsibilities

Each proposal defines what Synv will provide and what information, access or decisions are required from the customer.

Prompt decision-making

Projects move more effectively when key stakeholders are available to review progress and approve agreed decisions.

Flexible engagement

A delivery structure suited to the project.

Not every requirement needs the same commercial or delivery model. Synv will recommend an approach based on the complexity, certainty and stage of the project.

Discovery project

A focused piece of work to understand the requirement, examine technical options and create a practical development roadmap.

Fixed-price project

A clearly defined scope delivered for an agreed project fee and timescale — appropriate where requirements are well understood.

Phased development

A larger product divided into manageable stages, allowing progress and investment to be reviewed throughout delivery.

Ongoing development

Continued access to development and technical support for an evolving product or changing programme of work.

Structured flexibility

Progress you can see.

Where appropriate, projects are delivered using an Agile sprint approach. Work is divided into defined periods, with completed functionality demonstrated at regular intervals.

This provides visibility, encourages useful feedback and reduces the risk of a product being developed for several months before the customer can properly review it.

Earlier visibility

Customers can see working functionality throughout development rather than waiting until the end.

Better feedback

Real features are easier to review and respond to than written descriptions and assumptions.

Controlled priorities

The most important functionality can be developed and validated first.

Reduced delivery risk

Technical challenges and workflow issues can be identified earlier in the project.

Testing and review

Built carefully. Tested properly.

Quality assurance is considered throughout development rather than left until the final days of a project. Testing will depend on the type of product but may include technical testing, user workflow testing, integration checks, performance reviews and user acceptance testing.

Functional testing

Confirm that agreed features operate as intended.

User workflow testing

Test the product against realistic tasks and user journeys.

Integration testing

Confirm that connected systems exchange information correctly.

Performance testing

Review the product under realistic operating conditions.

User acceptance testing

Give authorised customer representatives the opportunity to test and approve the completed product.

Keeping projects controlled

Clear scope without preventing good ideas.

A clear scope protects both the customer and the development team. It defines what is included, the intended outcome and the assumptions used when preparing the project proposal.

During development, new ideas or requirements may emerge. Where these sit outside the agreed scope, Synv will explain the impact on cost, timescale and existing priorities before any additional work proceeds.

No unexpected additions. No hidden changes. Any material variation is discussed and agreed first.

Protecting the project

Your ideas and information are treated with respect.

Bespoke development projects may involve confidential business processes, product plans, customer data and commercially sensitive information. Synv can work under appropriate confidentiality arrangements and will clearly define intellectual property ownership within each formal agreement. The specific position will depend on the project, but ownership, licensing, third-party components and handover requirements will be explained before development begins.

Confidential information

Sensitive project and business information is handled appropriately throughout the engagement.

Intellectual property

Ownership and usage rights are clearly defined within the project agreement before work begins.

Third-party technology

Any external platforms, licences or components are identified and explained where relevant to the project.

Source code and handover

The agreed approach to source code, documentation and final deliverables is set out in advance.

About us

Commercial understanding combined with technical capability.

Synv is a UK software development and digital product company based in Hull, East Yorkshire. The business brings together experience across commercial software, web development, systems integration, real-time 3D, immersive technology, product delivery and technical leadership.

Rather than operating with a large fixed development structure, Synv can assemble the right combination of developers and specialists around the requirements of each project — remaining flexible while ensuring technically complex work is led by experienced people.

Practical

We recommend technology that is appropriate for the requirement and the organisation.

Experienced

Projects are shaped and led by people with experience across software development and commercial delivery.

Flexible

Additional development and specialist capability can be brought into a project when required.

Long-term

We consider how a product will be supported, improved and expanded after its initial release.

Ongoing support

Launch is a milestone, not necessarily the end.

Some projects conclude with a structured handover. Others continue through ongoing support and product development. Synv can provide a support arrangement suited to the product and the customer's internal capability.

Whether the requirement is routine maintenance, a programme of new features or access to technical consultancy, we can agree a structure that reflects the product's ongoing needs.

Commercial approach

A clear proposal before work begins.

Every project is priced according to its scope, complexity, delivery requirements and expected timescale. Following an initial discussion, Synv will recommend the most appropriate next step and provide a clear commercial proposal.

Every proposal will explain:

01

What is included and how the work will be delivered

02

Expected timescales

03

Customer and Synv responsibilities

04

Commercial structure and key assumptions

05

Support and handover options

Ready to discuss what you are trying to build?

You do not need a completed technical specification. An initial conversation can help clarify the requirement, identify the likely options and establish the best next step.

Initial project conversations are informal and without obligation.
